INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS OF DRS BROWN AND HAHN

Drs Brown and Hahn will be leaving Argyll Medical Group on April 11th 2008 to become “Hospitalists” (a doctor who only works in a hospital to care for inpatients) with Enloe Primary Physician Group at Enloe Hospital. Argyll Medical recognizes the anxiety and inconvenience a change like this can cause patients and is working to make a smooth transition for patients.

Dr Hahn’s patients will transfer to the care of Stuart Mishelof PA-C, under the direction of Roy L Bishop MD.

Dr Brown’s patients – we do not yet have a new provider confirmed and are recruiting either a Physician Assistant or a Medical Doctor for this practice. It is possible that the new physician we are talking to will not be able to start until August 1st and so to comply with the State of California consumer laws we would have to formally notify existing patients of the practice closure.

Unfortunately, due to the growing shortage of primary care physicians in the community other providers at Argyll do not have the capacity to take more patients, but will try to care for any emergent needs of Dr Brown’s patients until we can find a new physician or physician assistant for the practice. If you wish to seek a physician outside Argyll Medical Group – please call Butte Glen Medical Society to find out who might be accepting new patients, Phone 342 4296

Why is there a shortage of primary care physicians? This is a national trend driven by the poor economics of primary care. For the past 8 years the cost of providing care has risen by 20-25% and in that same time insurers and Medicare have hardly increased reimbursements for the services provided at all. As a result young physicians with educational debt to pay back are choosing to become specialists despite the public’s need for high quality primary care. There is not much we as a medical group can do about such large trends, other than encourage those concerned to make their views known to State and Federal elected officials, and their health insurer if they have difficulty finding a doctor.

For more information for patients of Drs Brown and Hahn about their departure please see  www.brownandhahn.com

Requests for records: Former patients of Dr. Hahn seeking care elsewhere can request records from his office. Please note there is a $20 charge unless the record is being directly transferred to a new physician. Former patients of Dr. Brown will need to check the procedure to obtain records from him at the www.brownandhahn.com website. If a new provider for Dr Brown’s practice is found before April 11th then records will continue to be available from, his current office.
